Preschool Mathematics · Singapore Method

A spinning of Maths and stories.

Thalespin is a word play on “Thales” — the first mathematician — and “tales”, meaning story. Every lesson begins with a meaningful story, then hands-on manipulatives make the Maths real.

“When are we doing Maths again?”

— what children ask after a Thalespin lesson

Born of a beautiful collaboration

The editor behind Singapore’s Maths textbooks, meet the preschool sector.

Thalespin was developed by Curriculum Plus with Gan Meng Meng — ex-General Math Editor at Marshall Cavendish, who oversaw the writing of Singapore Maths textbooks My Pals Are Here and Shaping Maths.

Her background in primary-school Maths textbook writing, combined with Esther’s repertoire of experience in the preschool sector, produced a programme that is systematic, organised and pedagogically robust.

The pedagogy

Built on Singapore’s NEL framework, using the Singapore Method.

1

A story to start

Every lesson opens with a meaningful context — a tale that gives the Maths a reason to exist.

2

Hands on, every lesson

Children get concrete experiences in every single lesson — each child works with their own manipulative box.

3

Consolidate & connect

Activities consolidate the learning in a way young minds can truly connect with — systematic and organised.
