Elements of Life is a non-religious character education curriculum. It aligns with great values and social-emotional competencies — giving any school, of any background, a shared language for character.
What we’re building

Values
We see values not as head knowledge but beliefs — choices we will make. It is the way we treat:
- People around us
- People above us
- People below us
Social Emotional Competencies
The skills to live out our values. In Nurturing Early Learners (NEL), Social Emotional Competencies are adopted from the CASEL framework:
- Self Awareness
- Self Management
- Social Awareness
- Relationship Skills
- Responsible Decision Making
As we dive into these two aspects, we see how they are mutually supportive in learning. We see the importance of teaching them through stories with real-life struggles and dilemmas, for decisions to be made. Thus, we developed Elements of Life — values are taught through stories, and social emotional skills are taught through lesson plans.
